Elf Power – “The Princess Turns The Key To Cubist Castle (Curtain Call Part 1)”
Just a fun one all around this morning, as Elf Power release a cover of The Olivia Tremor Control’s “The Princess Turns The Key To Cubist Castle (Curtain Call Part 1).” The cut will appear on a new charity compilation, So Many Things at Once, which will be released by 612 Tapes, a new cassette label run by Hilarie and Per of High Water Marks. The comp features, covers, remixes, new cuts, and live tracks from Rose Melberg, The Late BP Helium, Honey Radar, Elf Power, Giant Day, The High Water Marks, Mikal Cronin, Dressy Bessy, the Natvral, Tape Olympics, Fuckleberry Hinn, The Ladybug Transistor, The Garment District, and Great Lakes.
Elf Power’s Andrew Riegler gives some background on their cover, “This song is a cover of our dear friends’ Olivia Tremor Control, that we recorded on 4 track cassette in 1996. I remember making a cassette of it for Will Hart (of OTC) when we recorded it, and recall him really enjoying our take on his song. It was not recorded with the intention of releasing it on an official album or single, it was just a fun recording of a friends’ song to share with them. Listening to it all these years later, I thought, “This is pretty good!”, and I thought this compilation would be a nice place to properly share it with the world.”
The compilation will benefit Justice Democrat’s mission: “We need a Democratic Party that fights for its voters, not big corporate donors. Our goal is to build a mission-driven caucus in Congress by electing more leaders like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman, who will represent our communities in congress and fight for bold, progressive solutions to our current crises.” The comp is out April 5th.
