Pop Filter – “Fighting Spirit”

RSTB favorites Pop Filter return for a third album out in December. The band, featuring members of perennial site specters Snowy, Partner Look, Cool Sounds, and The Ocean Party, has been quietly curling out heartfelt pop that falls on the more coiffed and composed side of the Aussie Indie spectrum. Despite its ramshackle home studio origins, the new album CONO, still feels as large and lush as anything in the band’s catalog. “Fighting Spirit” explores the polar notions of winning and losing and the disconnect between definitions of either. With a slightly askew air in the guitar and piano, the song comes on as comfortable as a rumpled sweater, wrapped in downy harmonies and tenderness.
