Aaron Dooley – “Funeral of Fireflies”

Avatar

Some real nice news from a couple of favorite labels this monring. Island House and Cenripetal Force team up this Fall to bring a new album from Aaron Dooley. The CO songwriter’s last outing for Island House was a favorite around here, floating between genres — adrift between spiritual jazz propulsion, kosmiche sparkle, and psychedelic flutter. The new album adds in an psych-country specter on “Funeral of Fireflies,” with Cooper Dickerson’s Pedal Steel bantering with sax and trumpet lines. The song runs the ley lines between psych, country, and jazz, with abstract and ethereal vocals threading through the mix. The album both feels akin to his last and at the same time a huge step forward in scope. The record, The International Disassociation of: Aaron Dooley, arrives October 6th on cassette from Island House and LP from Centripetal Force.
