Suss – “Gallup, NM”
Ambient country heroes Suss have been making large strides within their own sonically sanguine corner of the world in the last few years. Long advocates of the place where the horizon hits the sky, the band’s output has taken on a painted plains topography that was one part Bruce Langhonre’s Hired Hand and one part Earth’s Hex, washed in dusk’s hues. The band offers up a soundtrack to a stretch of 66 between Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Los Angeles, drenched in a twilight sense of serenity and open spaces. The EP remains, sadly, the last piece that original member Gary Lieb played on before his death this year, but in a bit of a lighter note, its the first in a series of planned releases for the upcoming year.
