Wurld Series – “The Giant’s Lawn Pt. I”

Avatar

Another favorite coming in to pack out 2023 with more music than ever! This time Kiwis Wurld Series return to bring their fuzz-knuckled indie to the speakers for another round in 2023. This time around, though, the band’s expanding their palette from mining the depths of the Flying Nun archives and Apache Studios cut-out bin to explore a bit more psych, with a touch of Canterbury curl. Like UK counterparts The Tubs, the band’s equally at home letting the works of Richard Thompson slip into their repertoire as they are the bounce and bound of ‘90s indie rock. The band lets loose with a double dose of new music this week, the first single hearkens back to the laconic ‘90s lilt of their last album, but it’s on album opener “The Giant’s Lawn Part I” that the band begins to break with their early impulses. A yawn of sax opens us into the song, winding woozily around the strums, leading into a backwards breath of guitar that opens into the new album’s arms. The band pairs it with a homespun video that’s all kid’s book charms that hint at the record’s narrative. Check out both singles now and look for The Giant’s Lawn November 17th from Meritorio and Melted Ice Cream.
