The Lauging Chimes – “Tomorrow’s 87”

Avatar

Following a pristine early string of albums, EPs and singles, Ohio’s The Laughing Chimes have settled nicely into their “ones to watch” digs. The band preps a new single for Slumberland this week. Snagging a few moves from The Pastels, Brighter, and the whole back bench of the Sarah catalog, “Tomorrow’s 87” finds the band as assured as ever. It would seem hat the band have been filling their speakers with same fuel that runs The Reds, Pinks and Purples, and as such, the new single makes grey-skied swoons seem like a promising invitation. They blur the background a bit more than their early offerings, and judging from their own admission to leaning into Chapterhouse and Ride, it seems that the gaze n’ gauze have made their way into the mix as well. The flip doesn’t slip either, keeping the jangles solid and letting in a bit of Felt’s soft padding. The new single is out now on Slumberland.
