Baltimore’s The Smashing Times made a surprise return this morning, following up their incessant jangler from last year with the upcoming This Sporting Life. The band offers up another shot of Television Personalities looseness, with nods to Desperate Bicycles and the shaggier moments of Cleaners from Venus. Letting the guitars dance all over the speakers on “Glorious Tales of Wes” the band call and croon to each other from across the room in joyous return. The band’s last album was a favorite around here and from the first strains of this one, it feels like another record that’s gonna be glued to the turntable this year. The new album is out October 25th from Perennial Death.
