SUSS & Andrew Tuttle – “Rising”

Avatar

The crew at Longform Editions always elicit some of the most moving pieces from those that enter into their ranks. The label has focused on single, extended tracks from artists, pulling in highlights from Cole Pulice, Patrick Shiroishi, Matt Valentine, Richard Youngs, and more. In their latest batch, a cross-continental collaboration from SUSS & Andrew Tuttle steals the show, blending both artists’ affinities for ambient country and processed electronics. Both have been haunting RSTB for quite a while now and it’s great to see what’s come out of a collaboration. The piece starts with the icy reverberations of Pat Irwin and Andrew’s synths, looped into a 30-minute tapestry of emotions and feelings by Bob Holmes, and then stretched into infinity by Tuttle’s explorations of treated banjo. The song straddles the worlds of SUSS’ inner-mind Westerns and the touch of Appalachian grace brought by Tuttle. 30 minutes of deep-dive bliss.
