Jake Xerxes Fussell – “Going to Georgia”

Avatar

I always love to see a favorite of the site get a bump up, and it does my heart good to see Jake Xerxes Fussell announce a new album for Fat Possum this year. The new record, produced by James Elkington, features a great deal of instrumentation from Jams as well as a few other familiar names as well — Joan Shelley lends vocals, Ben Whiteley, bass, and Joe Westerlund, drums. The first single finds Fussell in his aura of ease. The best Fussell songs always seems to be snagged and sagged in the best ways, beat like a favorite pair of jeans and coated with a bit of road dust along the way. “Going To Georgia” makes good use of Fussell’s effortless hangdog halo, feeling like the last sighs at the end of the longest day. The new album, When I’m Called, is out July 12th from Fat Possum.
