Jessica Pratt – “World On A String”

Avatar

A beguiling new single from Jessica Pratt wafts in on gossamer breezes this week. The L.A. songwriter has a unique knack for crafting folk songs that feel like they may have been broadcast across time and space — Voyager recordings beamed through the ether, landing on the listener like heavenly odes. Set among strums and the low, plaintive bow of stings, the song serves largely as bedding for Pratt’s voice. This time her trademark trill is working its way around the lower end of her register, though it still retains the kind of captivating presence that only Pratt can command. The accompanying video, directed by Kate Bollinger, finds Pratt in a ’60s commune setting, matching the song’s ache for the past. “World On A String” appears on her upcoming album, Here In The Pitch, out May 3rd from Mexican Summer/City Slang.
