Six Organs of Admittance – “The Mission”

A gorgeous, contemplative track heralds a new album on the way from Ben Chasny’s Six Organs of Admittance. Following some unexpected tributaries in temperament — the hushed, ambient academia of Sleep Tones and the visceral, alkaline burn of 2021’s The Veiled Sea — Ben has returned to the cradle of calm that’s swaddled a good portion of his work. Squinting into the sun, “The Mission” balances the soft ripple of psych-folk that’s been at the heart of the 6orgs for so long with a pop sweetness that wipes away some of the acid and ash from his sound.
