LAIR – “Tatalu”

It’s always a joy to see something new spring up from the Guruguru Brain camp. The latest sees the label skirt over to Indonesia, with a new release from sprawling sextet LAIR. The band incorporates their local traditions and commerce into the mix, utilizing terracotta instruments that reflect the local clay trade. “Tatalu,” the first single from their upcoming album, Ngélar, burns with a rhythmic intensity, setting their guitars against the slap of sticks and soaring vocals from Monica Hapsari. At its heart, though, the song and album are rooted in celebration — an explosion of color and light that’s infectious in its energy. The album was produced by Kikagaku Moyo’s Go Kurosawa and arrives February 23rd from Guruguru Brain.
