Lightheaded – “Dawn Hush Lullabye”

Fresh off of one of my favorite releases of 2023, New Jersey’s Lightheaded get bumped out of the EP grotto and onto the album docket proper, prepping their debut for Slumberland this Spring. The band balances a love of ‘90s jangle, tied up n’ twisted through the C86, Sarah, and Summershine vector, while nodding a bit more than most of their peers at the ‘60s baroque pop pantheon. They find their footing in the works of Curt Boettcher or Wendy and Bonnie as well. They’d also make a pretty perfect paring with Aussie favorites Parsnip, who also have a love for the lilting pop of the past and a more modern mastery of jangles. For “Dawn Hush Lullabye,” the group bandies about vernal strings and a tangle of guitars, with knotted harmonies floating on the breezes above. It’s just a taste of what the album offers, a record that makes good on the promises that were hinted on last year’s EP. The new album, Combustible Gems, is out May 17th from Slumberland.
