La Luz – “Strange World”

Lovely to see new music today from La Luz. After two excellent solo album, Shana Cleveland’s songwriting has produced some of my favorite records of the last few years. Reunited with her bandmates following 2021’s eponymous outing, the band looks to get a bump up from the Hardly Art roster to Sub Pop proper this time around. The first single is the spacey, bass-y bombast of “Strange World.” It pairs the band’s cushioned cocoon of vocals with a snarl of guitar and dosing of New Wave keys. Paired with a psychedelic space video with a Paper Girls vibe, the new single finds La Luz sounding refreshed. The new album, News of the Universe, is out May 24th from Sub Pop.
