Kikagaku Moyo – “Cardboard Pile”

Avatar

I’d hoped this news was on the way when Kikagaku Moyo announced their final tour. Today the band reveals the first dip into a new and, sadly, last, album from the band. Long an RSTB fave, the psychedelic collective offers up a song that definitely feels like part of a larger puzzle, hinting that the upcoming album might be one of their most sprawling and immersive yet. Launching into view with noise-soaked sitar, guitar fry, and a tumble of percussion, the song peaks and breaks before an undulating calm sets in under the fanfare of horns. Cosmic Japanese psychedelics don’t come much better than Kikagaku Moyo, and with this being the last long player, I’m going to soak in every moment of the upcoming Kumoyo Island. The new record is out May 6th from the band’s label GuruGuru Brain.
