Causa Sui – “El Fuego (Live at Loppen)”

Avatar

Some good news out of the El Paraiso camp. The label, continually one of my favorite enclaves of EU psych, jazz, and library music has a couple of offerings on the dock. In keeping with their recent run of live albums (Edena Gardens, London Odense Ensemble) the label follows with a new live record from flagship band, Causa Sui. The band released a massive set a few years back: Live In Copenhagen. The outfit isn’t always known for a lot of live sets these days, so the live recordings capture a chance that not many have outside of their home country, and that set found the band stretching out with expansive versions of their works alongside a massive of “A Love Supreme.” The group captured a new official live work in 2021, this time at Loppen — a legendary Copenhagen venue, located in the famous Freetown Christiania commune. The show, for an audience of 400 found the band exploring their catalog and letting the improvisational spirit flow through the set. You can hear a limber rendition of “El Fuego” below. The new record, Loppen 2021, is out September 29th (ltd 1K pieces).

A new record from Oakland’s Justin Pinkerton, aka Futuropaco, is out from the label on October 13th, showcasing his psych-funk brand of Library gems with a socio-political undercurrent.
