Alien Eyelid – “I Didn’t Mean To b/w I’m Not Ready Yet”

Avatar

Last year Houston’s Alien Eyelid snuck onto the radar with their country ramble Bronze Star. The band nailed the down-river valley comforts of country tinged with a ripple of road tar that makes your head swim. The band follows the album with a new single and a tour with fellow RSTB faves Shinglers. The new single digs into the band’s strengths. The A-side is a full-bodied country killer — embracing late nights drowned in well liquor and bad decisions. The song saunters into the chorus where excuses turn to pleading that feels like its hitting a brick wall. It’s a classic earworm of woe, woven thick with pedal steel n’ passion. The flip’s a more tender tap into the kind of cosmic country that’s been rising steady over the past few years. With softhearted background vocals, flute and just the right balance of melancholy and regret, the song’s a nice flash of their softer side. The new single is out now from Tall Texan and if you’re around Texas, the band’s headed our way on tour. Hit ’em up.
