William Tyler & The Impossible Truth – “Area Code 601”

Alongside a stacked lineup of Nashville players — Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs, Dead Weather), Brian Kotzur (Silver Jews, Country Westerns), and Luke Schneider (solo, Margo Price) — William Tyler fashions his guitar trysts into slightly scorched visions of Cosmic Americana. “Area Code 601” choogles along at a nodding pace that ties the temperament of the German Progressives and Kosmiche contingent to a dust-dry run through the rust of the American West. Tyler’s long been a consummate slinger of the strings, but has often been a proponent of tenderness more so than heady burndowns. It’s great to see him apply that silver touch to a heavier palette. The album was recorded live at Yellowhammer Brewing in Huntsville Alabama. Secret Stratosphere is out March 31st on Merge.
