On his new album, Jonny Halifax sets aside his blistered blues for a set of creosote raags that delve deep into the heart of desperation. Setting one foot in the waters of deep-zone Spacemen 3 psychedelic burnout and another in the high plains heat of Earth, the album is scorched and torn apart by a desert heat that’s harnessed and hurled back by Halifax’s amplifier fry. The culminating moment of this set is the tortured and twisted “The Time of The Wolves,” — Halifax at his most hackled and harrowing. The track growls like a pack animal cornered, its teeth bared and its soul burning. The album, Acid Blüüs Räägs : Vol. 1, is out now from God Unknown.
