Painted Shrines – “Heaven and Holy”
High on my ‘most anticipated’ list is the debut from Painted Shrines. The collaboration between Glenn Donaldson (Skygreen Leopards/ Reds, Pinks and Purples) and Jeremy Earl (Woods) finds a sun-swathed balance between Glenn’s current run of jangle-pop and the verdant, fuzz-imbued psych that both players have long been mining in their respective catalogs. The next dip into the upcoming Heaven and Holy is the title track, a fizzing bit of psych-pop that’s bathed in bliss. Fuzz swirls howling in the distance, strums tangling around intertwined voices and the light caress of organ gluing the track together with ease. While the snow has encased the East Coast in a cocoon of frigid despair lately, this track helps melt the bitter chill with visions of the California sun that brought it to life. The debut LP is out March 5th from Woodsist.
