Tyvek – “Return To Format”

Avatar

One of the nicest moments of venturing out to Woodsist this year was a set from Tyvek, who haven’t really hit this site for a few years, having been a staple during the late aughts and early ‘10s. The band’s been a bit quiet of late, with a 7” popping up in 2019 and a few odds and ends and live tapes making their way out after 2016’s Origin of What. The band returns with a new record that’s as vital as ever, still chewing on the ragged wire ends of the punk spectrum and letting the current careen through the speakers. That energy remains in the live realm as well, and it was easy to slough off the rain during their set this summer as the band banged out familiar classics on stage. Check out the ecstatic burn of “Return To Format,” clanging like old days and letting Emily Roll’s sax skronk underneath the storm of strums with a delightful bleat. The new record, Overground, arrives November 10th.
