The Umbrellas – “Echoes”

Avatar

The week keeps getting better with more music filtering down the mountain from the upcoming Umbrellas LP. The band’s debut was in constant rotation around here, and with the first single off of Fairweather Friend, they proved they have much more where that came from. Second single, “Echoes,” demures from the slicker pop sound of “Three Cheers!” Laying back into the sun-faded jangle pop that served them so well on the debut. With Morgan taking up the leads this time around, the song is enveloped in a sighed ennui. It drapes itself across the speakers, a bit weary, but not beleaguered. Things may not have gone according to plan, but the bittersweet balance is still there. It’s a song of coming to terms with expectations — the long drag rendered in jangles. Fairweather Friend is out January 26th 2024 on Slumberland Records & Tough Love Records.
