The New Eves – “Astrolabe”

Avatar

This morning brings a new single from RSTB faves The New Eves. The UK group taps into an earthen, psychedelic folk sound. Though often undercut with strains of post-punk (think Raincoats or OH-OK), the band most often taps into the kind of cultish, Anglican folk that permeated The Wicker Man or Children of the Stones, and their newest single, “Astrolabe” is a prime example of this quality. Over sawing strings and ominous, ritualistic percussion, the song builds through to an ecstatic end, boiling over into chants that rise like smoke to the skies. The new single is out now from Broadside Hacks/Slow Dance.
