Sky Furrows – “Old Morality”

Avatar

Some local love today as news of Sky Furrows’ new album hits. The band’s 2020 eponymous offering spent a good amount of time on the speakers that year and they follow up with a new bout of visceral, literary psych for Cardinal Fuzz and Feeding Tube. The band’s pieces can often snake around the listener like a patient vice, tightening as vocalist Karen Schoemer builds tension in speak-song precision. That feeling comes through on single “Two Hamlets,” but its the companion piece “Old Morality” that finds the band bringing a new heat. Hardiman and Griffin trade barbs between bass and guitar, levying a crunch that’s as heavy as any in their canon. Schoemer’s vocals have an acidity to them here, still offered with her spoken word patter but given a punk ferocity that matches the song’s tumult. The new album, Reflect and Oppose, is out November 24th.
