Sally Anne Morgan – “Diamond Joe”

It’s been a full day of great music, but one more couldn’t hurt us, especially if its a lovely new single from site favorite Sally Anne Morgan. The songwriter has been teasing out singles from her upcoming record, Carrying, over the past few months and the latest finds her bringing along friend and collaborator Ripley Johnson (Rose City Band, Moon Duo) on guitar. “Diamond Joe” sways with an evening breeze, a golden hour glow that’s exacerbated by Ripley’s soft touch of cosmic country. A light shuffle of drums from Nathan Bowles pushes the Jack Elliot cover on its way, but as usual its Morgan’s quiet and clear croon that sets the song aloft. The new record finds its way out September 22nd from Thrill Jockey.
