Mike Reed – “Floating With An Intimate Stranger”

An excellent new single makes its way out today from Mike Reed’s upcoming collaborative album, The Separatist Party. The album features Reed (Loose Assembly, Exploding Star Orchestra) alongside Cornetist Ben LaMar Gay, poet Marvin Tate, and Bitchin Bajas. The newest single off of the album slips through the psychedelic jazz vortex, balancing Gay’s cornet and Rob Frye’s flutes with kosmiche synths that float around the headspace (via Cooper Crain) all while Reed keeps a steady hand on the tiller behind the kit. “Floating With An Intimate Stranger,” explores modes of higher consciousness or as Reed puts it, “The song is there to help you get outside of your own body. Sometimes you meditate, sometimes you need substances, and sometimes you share the most intimate thoughts and desires with complete strangers . . . they’re different ways to be free.” The new album arrives October 27th from Astral Spirits / We Jazz.
