A towering single today from Chicago songwriter Maria Elena Silva features the artist’s accomplished backing band, which brings together Marc Ribot and Stephen Hodges for the first time since the pair collaborated on Waits’ Rain Dogs. “Love, If It Is So” builds from a quiet growl to a gale force glow as the song angles out of the speakers amid a storm of Ribot’s licks. The record was recorded at Big Ego headquarters in Long Beach with Chris Schlarb behind the boards, ushering in a collision of jazz, post-punk, and pop that finds Silva at her most defiant and experimental. The new record, Dulce, is out September 29th from BIG EGO and Astral Spirits.
