Jeffrey Silverstein – “Theme From Western Sky Music (Misha Panfilov remix)”

Already high on the list of favorites for 2023, Jeffrey Silverstein’s Western Sky Music has been in heavy rotation on the speakers here and he offers up another great reason to revisit the record. The album’s centerpiece, “Theme For Western Sky Music,” is given a lounged lilt from Misha Panfilov. The Estonian composer has been wandering through an enchanted valley soundtracked by psych, Kosmiche, jazz, and funk. For “WSM” he turns down the pedal steel saunter of the cut’s original recording for something a bit more hammock-swung and humid. Trills of strings and a grotto of echoing atmosphere envelop the remix, urging the listener towards the deep glow of the horizon. The remix is out now, and if you missed out on the rest of Western Sky Music, its time to get familiar before the year’s out.
