Helpful People – “Bugs From Below”

A couple of Raven faves come together as new Bay-area band Helpful People. Featuring perennial fixture on the site Glenn Donaldson (Art Museums, Skygreen Leopards) alongside Carly Putnam (The Oilies/The Mantles), the pair deal in a sun-washed vision of jangle-pop that comes across like a hazy sibling to Glenn’s work as The Reds, Pinks, and Purples. Like RPP, a sense of melancholy pervades first single “Bugs From Below.” Yoked with a heavy-heart and a liberal dose of soft-focus fuzz, the song is a nice introduction to the band’s debut, brokenblossom threats, out soon from Tall Texan.
