Hayden Pedigo – “Letting Go”

Avatar

Still more sunset strums to fill your coffers of instrumental country this week. Sliding in nicely alongside Barry Walker Jr and North Americans, who he’s shared catalog space with at Driftless, Hayden Pedigo finds himself among the stable at Mexican Summer for his latest, Letting Go. The title track leads the way into the new album with the kind of ambient shivers that would make Suss proud before striding into strums and a pedal steel ache provided by fellow mapper of country shadows, Luke Schneider. The song has a prairie breeze in its hair, sighing to a stop after a tantalizingly short run that leaves the listener wanting more. Thankfully there’s a whole album’s worth on the way September 24th. Pedigo may have come to quite a few attentions with his small town political run that’s about to get a doc at SXSW this year, uncovering the frustrations with our system at even its most modest levels, but the album will cement his legacy long after the film flickers away.
