Cuticles – “Mattress”

Got a gnarled nugget out of New Zealand today, the latest single from Kiwi crust-pop newcomers Cuticles. The band formed in the wake of the dissolution of Matt Plunkett and Austen Mcmillan’s previous band Trendees, picking up steam over the last year, with an early EP hitting ears on Tasmanian label Wormwood Grasshopper, a short-run lathe on Spik & Span, and a full length just out on the inimitable Siltbreeze. The latest single, “Mattress” digs deep into the noise pop pantry, letting the clang of guitars and the yelp of voices lap against the listener with ragged glee. The band pairs it with a dizzying video that embraces the song’s spring-loaded entropy. The new record, Major Works, is out now on Siltbreeze.
