Steven R. Smith – “Olive”
by Andy
Always love around these parts for Steven R. Smith (43 Odes, Hala Strana, Ulaan Khol, Ulaan Passerine) and his latest under his own name has found him further embracing the cinematic themes that pop up in his music. “Olive” and its namesake album find Smith creating an imagined score, this time collaborating with a cast of players that fills out his panoramic visions with brass and woodwinds, piano, and organ. In the past he’s created vistas out of guitar, harmonium, and the crash of drums, but here his works are given a properly plush backdrop. The new album, Olive, is out April 19th from Soft Abuse.
