Spice World – “Mountain Pony 20”
Another single out of Meritorio today and it finds the previously discussed debut from Aussies Spice World taking a bit of a melancholy turn. Where the past few singles were ramshackle swerves though jangle pop, peppered with roughshod choruses and cheeky smiles, the band tempers their tangles on “Mountain Pony 20.” The single is a standout of the upcoming There’s No I In Spice World. Tender and a bit bittersweet, the single finds the band stripping away much of the the kitchen clatter, with just guitar, vocals, and a slight patter of drums. The minimal coating feels good on them, flirting awfully close with Galaxie 500 territory, if their songs were covered by The Verlaines. The song is certainly my favorite of the bunch, an end of the day dose of solace that soaks in quite nicely. The album is out January 20th from Meritorio / Tenth Court.
