Sam Burton – “Maria”

A similar vibe to the John Andrews single from earlier in the morning, this new cut from Sam Burton finds the songwriter reaching back to the past for inspiration. Where his debut pulled from Everly Brothers and Roy Orbison deep cuts, this time there’s something skewing a bit more ‘70s about the sound, joining the growing ranks of musicians finding solace in Harry Nilsson. Strings play a much bigger role in the single, moving away from the spare sounds of I Can Go With You. The song’s narrative chews on redemption, a longing for forgiveness and a second chance in the new day’s light. The new single is out now and coincides with a move to Partisan Records.
