Quality Used Cars – “I’ve Never Felt More Alive”
Been a couple of years since I’ve heard from South-hemi heroes Quality Used Cars. I quite enjoyed their Aussie meets Austin country cavalcade from 2021 and the band is back this summer with a new record on the way for Spoilsport Records. While its still shot through with the talk-sing storytelling of Francis Tait, there’s more of a buoyant group effort this time around, leaning into the luxurious background vocals that only occasionally crept through the speakers on Good Days/Bad Days. The debut was often a bit dour in places, perhaps leaning into those downer days more than the good, but there’s a lovely optimism to the new record and that’s readily apparent on “I’ve Never Felt More Alive.” The new record, Quality of Life, arrives August 4th, a dented and damaged vision of Americana that should fit right in with folks already letting that Florry record rouse their speakers.
