Pearl Charles – “Smoke In The Limousine”

Avatar

A melancholy new single surfaces today from perennial RSTB favorite Pearl Charles. Often draped in country comforts or squinting through the neon and silver glare of disco’s last dust up, this time Charles offers a sigh and a stare, haloed by the haze of late night smoke. The song’s as heavy and sparse as I’ve heard her, sparring with a lone acoustic until strings rise up like the titular smoke curls. The song captures another ‘70s touchstone, the cinematic sweep that runs through “Heart Like a Wheel,” “Run of the Mill,” or “Turn Your Back On The Wind.” The new single is out today, in conjunction with the announcement of a show at London’s Omeara on October 10th.
