Motorists – “Surrounded”
I’ve really been loving the singles from this upcoming album from Canadian trio Motorists. The latest chucks some of the power pop panache from their earlier cuts for a more serrated guitar attack, chewing on Feelies riffs, and Soft Boys sneers, while bristling at the encroaching trappings of life. From the country to the city, everything seems to chafe, but the song lodges its meaty hooks into the listener with ease. The record has unfolded into a shining gem from the north that should be creeping up more and more people’s watchlists. They trip it out with the same public access aesthetics that have accompanied their other singles, laying down a raw backdrop to the band’s post-punk pound. The debut album, Surrounded, is out September 3rd from We Are Time.
