Laughing – “Will She Ever Be A Friend of Mine”

Montreal power pop outfit Laughing follow up their infectious first single with “Will She Ever Be A Friend of Mine.” Easing off of the Alt-axis, the new single is far more steeped in the jangle-pop pedigree, feeling like it’s filled with fallout from the post-Byrds bunch, leaning heavy on Lemonheads, Fanclub, and the Memphis power pop well. The song has a breeziness to it that’s offset by it’s overt pining. As carefree as the band would like to make it feel, the lyrical sway gives it melancholy that refutes any ease. The new album, Because It’s True, is out June 28th from Celluloid Lunch and Meritorio Records.
