Some West Coat quiver today from songwriter/author/illustrator Kim Krans. “Dead Stars” hangs in the darkness, gaunt and crouching, an ambience of gnawed raw nerves about it before the song kicks into its rhythmic trance. Nodding to early Bat For Lashes, Lightning Dust, or Storm Queen-era Grace Cummings, the song relishes the shadows. Krans’ new record, MIRRORMIRROR, comes out this week from Scott Hirsch’s Echo Magic Records and features My Morning Jacket’s Jim James in spots.
