Jeffrey Silverstein – “Cowboy Grass”

Avatar

After a few days of teasing, Jeffrey Silverstein announces his second album for Arrowhark with the excellent “Cowboy Grass.” With a darker countenance than he’d wielded on You Become The Mountain and its short-form follow-up Torii Gates, the new single leans into a drawl that hovers somewhere between Callahan and Berman, drawing blood with a steeliness that benefited both influences. Beneath him the band has become a more more integral component, adding in Akron/Family’s Dana Buoy on drums, with Alex Chapman returning on bass, and Barry Walker Jr.’s impeccable slide runs coloring in the spaces between. The album also features cameos from William Tyler and Karina Walker. The new cut is paired up with an after hours beer ad video, following the exploits of a TV cowboy who feels like he’s got a Pynchon-esque backstory in him if you have the time to listen. The new album, Western Sky Music, is out May 12th.
