Fortitude Valley – “Cassini”

Avatar

A fun one today from Fortitude Valley, the alias of Laura Kovic (Tigercats) a Brisbane songwriter relocated to the UK. With the help of friends RSTB faves Martha and Night Flowers, Kovic knocks out infectious indie pop gems that would sidle up nicely alongside Joanna Gruesome, Lisa Prank, or Colleen Green, and naturally hold a little bit of crossover appeal for Martha fans. On “Cassini” Kovic re-imagines the recent demise of NASA’s Cassini spacecraft after 20 years of observation, as the termination of a long term relationship. The spacecraft heads beyond its bounds despite the probability of destruction, turning this into a tragic tale of taking chances. The song’s got a pogo pulse, and sandpaper riffs that are tempered by Kovic’s ice water cool vocals. The single’s out now from Fika Recordings.
