Earth Room – “Bridges of Waves”
The last few years have been fruitful for Ezra Feinberg, with a lovely album out in 2020 and a collaboration with John Kolodij. Now the former Citay and Piano Magic guitarist links up with Robbie Lee and John Thayer for an improv-based trio called Earth Room. The band blends kosmiche aesthetics with ambient textures and jazz insticts for an album that revels in quiet contemplation and heady exploration. The project was born out of a one-off set at Brooklyn’s Nowadays that found the three come together for an elevated set of improvisational anthems and the three decided it worked so well that more exploration was warranted. Lee’s woodwinds soar over Feinberg’s guitar work and Thayer’s restrained percussion on album opener “Bridges of Waves.” The song creaks into existence before it embraces the dawn light looming over the horizon. It’s a perfect way to creep into the album’s loose knit textures and quietly percolating psychedelia. The band’s eponymous LP is out October 21st from Related States.
