Danny Arakaki – “All Thanks”

Avatar

Great to see this one edging up to get out into the wild. Garcia Peoples’ songwriter Danny Arakaki has been working out solo sounds with a band for a couple of years now, and Tumble In Shade marks his debut. The record is far from lonesome, though. Recorded at Black Dirt Oak (likely one of the last) and Gary’s Electric, the record features quite a few familiar names in the credits. Ryan Jewell lends his sticks, Mike Bones some guitar, Samara Lubelski and Rachel Herman add strings, Jef Brown Sax, and Dan Lead handles Pedal Steel. The record promises a nice branching off from the cosmic sounds of the Peoples, but things start out in familiar territory on album opener “All Thanks.” Churning guitars and hypnotizing violin pull the listener into Arakaki’s world as he builds to a thundering tempest of sound and fury by the songs end. Tumble In Shade is out January 20th from Husky Pants.
