The Mellons – “Make Me Feel”

A bright spot among the releases of 2022 was the debut outing from Salt Lake City’s sunshine-psych alchemists The Mellons. The band returns just in the nick of time for the tail end of 2023 with a new single, “Make Me Feel.” Lost in the band’s crystal-lined cave of echoes and refracted light, the single benefits from the band’s sumptuous production. Strings, flutes, keys and cascades of voices swirl around the listener. This one’s for the headphone set — a gift to lovers of brother Brian and his acolytes, with touches of The Free Design, Yellow Balloon, Curt Boettcher, and Billy Nichols in the mix. Earth Libraries serves this up as a standalone single, but here’s hoping there’s more to come real soon!
