The Hanging Stars – “Happiness Is A Bird”

Always a treat to get something new from The Hanging Stars, especially following the band’s excellent album from last year, Hollow Heart. The band teased out a Sandy Denny cover last month as a bonus, recorded at Edwyn Collins’ Clashnarrow Studio and it seems that was more of a hint at new works rather than a tie on last year. The band has further works from sessions with Collins, kicking off with new single “Happiness Is A Bird.” Strummed and sunned, the new cut finds the band laying deep into their Cosmic American cradle. Threaded through the velveteen production, the band ties in a dose of twang and stacked harmonies. They pair the new song with an appropriately hazy new video from Hollow Hand & Julian Hand. No word yet on whether this is tied to a new full length, but here’s to hoping there’s plenty more on the way. The new single is out now on Loose Music.
