Mikaela Davis – “Home In The Country”

A new single arrives from the upcoming (and highly anticipated around these parts) new record from Mikaela Davis. The songwriter’s direction has wandered further towards a Cosmic Americana tilt, and that strain may be no more prevalent than on “Home in the Country.” The song embodies the urge to shed urban confines, mixing a classic dose of Canyon Country with a Hudson Valley backdrop — wafts of Rondstadt and Denny Doehrty rise on the winds beneath the Rip Van Winkle’s trellised expanse. The song, written by her Southern Star bandmate Cian MCCarthy, underscores how integral the band has become to Davis’ works in the past few years, both in the live setting as well as informing the calico soul of her new record. The song’s message is underpinned by the pastoral footage in the accompanying video, increasing the urge to wander towards the mountains and settle in for the summer. Davis’ new record, And Southern Star, is out August 4th from Kill Rock Stars.
