Maybel – “Long Road Ahead”

A gorgeous new single arrives this week from Canadian quartet Maybel. Filled with layered harmonies and an elegiac folk feel, “Long Road Ahead” soars on strings, but keeps an heavy atmosphere around them. The band captures a classic folk and country calm, but with their love for Daniel Lanois, the works here are a bit more opulent than your average indie-folk offering. That grandeur and gloss comes through nicely on “Long Road Ahead,” an achingly beautiful opening to their new album, Gloam, arriving October 27th from Idée Fixe Records.
