Emmett Morris – Emerald EP

It’s been a great year for Cosmic Americana, but there’s always room for more. A late-year entry to the canon comes from James Matthew VII collaborator Emmett Morris. The Canadian country sounds of Morris fit right into the pocket of sun-sloshed hits from JMVII, The Pink Stones, and The Hanging Stars. The songs on Emerald showcase a few different sides of Morris’ work, starting out with the more honkin’ hues of “Take You Down To Vegas,” featuring a sweetly stung duet from Nicolette Hoang. Once we sail into “Glimpse of Beyond,” the more traditional sounds of country wash away in a tide of echo and a good dose of afternoon sun. The collection is rounded out with the galloping joy of “Golden Meadow” and the nicely rumpled closer “Take A Beat.” The new EP is out now, nab it from Emmett’s Bandcamp.
