Dun-Dun Band – “No. 1”

Checking in with Ansible Edtions, the jazz offshoot of Idée Fixe and they’ve got an excellent offering on the way from Toronto’s Dun-Dun Band. Lead by Craig Dunsmuir (Glissandro 70, Guitarkestra), the sprawling collective work through progressive jazz modes with a voracious appetite for rhythm and a psychedelic heart. With members of Brodie West’s Eucalyptus, Badge Époque Ensemble and Sandro Perri’s ensemble, the band culls in an impressive array of Toronto’s jazz contingent. Record opener “No. 1” finds the band working through an eleven and a half minute odyssey of percussive patter and guitar explorations with West’s sax pushing the piece further into the atmosphere. The new LP, Pita Parka, Pt. I: Xam Egdub, is out tomorrow from Ansible Editions.
