Blushing – “Tamagotchi”
Blowing away the cold creep of a relentless extra day in February, Austin’s Blushing tap into the smudged sensibilities of shoegaze, riding the rails of the ’80s/’90s axis. Couched in a cloud that’s worthy of Adorable or Ride and wielding a double female vocal like the heirs to the Veruca Salt crown, the band lets loose a single soaked in nostalgia. “Tamagotchi” employs the build and explode formula with ease, winding onto the speakers on spindly strums before the fuzz overtakes the room. Like fellow new-gaze slingers Seablite, the band doesn’t let the clouds cover over their hooks, rising through the din with a candy-coated melody that sticks around long after the smoke clears. The band’s new album, Sugarcoat, is out May 3rd from Kanine Records.
